Steps to Repair Harm at Nonprofits

At Young Storytellers, we value equity, empathy, and respect for everyone, including our staff. We also value transparency, and so we're sharing our process facilitated by Your Truth at Work to repair harm that's been caused to BIPOC staff by white staff, leadership, and community members.

Our entire staff agreed to take on this uncomfortable, ongoing, and often messy work because we care deeply about one another and the health of our organization.

Your Truth at Work plans are not performative and so with curiosity and critical reflection they kept the white staff accountable and listened to and acknowledged the BIPOC staff. They uncovered pain points and created strategies toward impactful change while minimizing future harm and respecting all.

When we put together our Worldview to center our programs in anti-racism and equity two years ago, we realized we needed to bring ourselves as a staff to that work. While this is just our first steps, we're ready to grow together and bring what we've learned to our board and broader community!
