Get Up to Speed With Story Time!

Visualizing Your Stories

Looking for ways to inspire your students’ creativity? We have just the opportunity. Young Storytellers is working in collaboration with CMD+Y Collective to illustrate our writers’ works. The artists at CMD+Y Collective are all set to transform student narratives into visually captivating graphics. Whether your student is an individual creating stories from their home or a writer in a classroom, everyone is welcome to send in their stories, ideas, or loglines for this opportunity. To have your students’ stories illustrated, send their ideas to share@youngstorytellers.com by February 16th.

Check out The Giant Dragon by Joseph, a YS student, illustrated by Jasmine Reyes! You can also view CMD+Y Collective on Instagram to see more of the magic they've previously created for Young Storytellers.

Looking to start Story Time? We’re offering information sessions throughout the spring. We'll walk you through the Story Time curriculum, guide you on accessing it through Achievery, and even take a deep dive into one of the units. Don't miss out on this chance to bring your student stories to life and learn more about the Story Time experience. To sign up, fill out this form and we’ll be in touch.

Inside The Achievery

As you review narrative writing this spring, be sure to explore the Writing What You Know unit available on Achievery. This unit serves as a launchpad for a personal narrative unit. One key aspect covered is the concept of a logline, a concise summary outlining the elements of a story. By using the logline, students can outline their personal narratives through identifying their goals, the obstacles they face, and the strategies to achieve their goals. This approach not only encourages students to reflect on their own lives but also provides a structured review of story elements. Logline worksheets are included, facilitating a guided and meaningful writing experience. The Writing What You Know unit is aligned to fifth grade standards, but could work for upper elementary and middle school grade levels.

What Else We’ve Been Up To

For educators working with older students, keep an eye out for our upcoming high school units on the Achievery. These units cover essential topics such as media analysis, personal identity, and narrative writing. Students will engage in critical analysis of the media they consume, gaining a deeper understanding of its impact on their perspectives. Moving forward, they'll explore personal identity and reflect on how their communities are portrayed in film and television. Students will then craft their personal narratives, using their insight to ensure a more authentic representation of themselves and their communities. Aligned with ninth and tenth-grade standards, these units are set for release in the spring of 2024.
